So what about the Sermon on the Mount?
The mosaic is from St Apollinare Nuovo, Ravenna, representing Jesus instructing the disciples. We often read Matthew’s so-called Sermon on the Mount (Mt 5 to 7) to explore just how we might live honest and godly lives. Biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine has produced a series of studies in a booklet Sermon on the Mount (2020, published by Abingdon Press) exploring various subjects including the Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer and Living into the Kingdom, with special reference to the Old Testament background and how Jesus’ followers put this into practise.
Barry will be hosting six sessions on Wednesday mornings at 9:30, starting 23 September. This meeting will be devotional and for fellowship while we explore these chapters of Matthew. There is a book for participants (which uses a picture of the mosaic), which you can get here. There is a separate leader guide (the words “LEADER GUIDE” are on the cover), which you are welcome to get, but the one for participants will have more information. A DVD has also been produced, which we may use.
This will be a Zoom meeting and a link will be sent out to all those interested just before.
