Reflection - God’s Amazing Creation
“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” - Romans 1:19-20 (ESV).
During the half term break, I went away with the family to a seaside town and luckily for us, our accommodation was a house that perched at the top of a hill overlooking the sea. It was such a wonderful view that I was going to patio frequently just to sit down and look out to the sea as far as my eye could see. The sight of the setting sun in the evening reflecting on the sea was so over whelming and a wonderful sight to behold.
Each time as I sat at the patio looking out to the sea and the surrounding greenery, I could not but marvel at God’s amazing creation. Many things have happened since the world was first created, including the entrance of sin into a perfect world. However, we can still enjoy the beauty of nature today and see the many wonders of God’s creation and how they reflect His glory.
Creation as a part of God's general revelation, affirms certain facts about God and without a doubt, God speaks to us through His creation. There are allegories and metaphors under almost every rock! We see how lovely it is to let dead things go in the way the trees release their leaves with a final burst of colour. We see the promise of resurrection in the way the leaves grow back in the Spring, along with flowering blooms and fragrant blossoms. We see the consistency of God’s unchanging nature in the steady rising and setting of the sun every morning and evening. And we see the guarantee of His Word in the rainbows that grace the sky in colourful arcs after a rain shower.
I think these are just a few of the things Paul might be referring to when he wrote this in Romans 1:19-20 because one only need to look around this earth to see the beauty of the Lord, to receive testimony of His glory, and to prove not only His existence, but His care and provision over all living things. God may be a spirit, he may be invisible to our eyes, but the creation reveals some of God’s invisible qualities to us. The size and complexity of creation, especially as seen in the heavens containing the sun, the moon and the stars, show us God’s eternal power. The beauty and order and design of creation show us God’s divine nature.
While there are many things that can take the breath out of us when we look at God’s amazing creation, yet God’s greatest work of creation you and I because we were the only thing in creation that He made in his Image, reason that David declared in Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. Among God’s creation, it is only us that God personally made. He went down from His throne on high and step down to gather dirt and soil to form His most special creation. God’s creation of human being is intimate, personal, and most importantly, special. We are the pinnacle of God’s creation and that means that you and I comes with a great purpose. In the realisation of how awesome our human bodies are and how impressive the creation is, we must bow down in humble adoration to God’s majesty like David, when he knew that he was fearfully and wonderfully made, he praised God! He recognised how marvellous God’s creation is.
I want you to remember that God created you. Because of that, you are unique, special, and most importantly, have a purpose in life. Don’t let other people tell you otherwise. Nobody is ugly, worthless, or not good enough. You are the child of the Living God and in your veins run the blood of a person created by God.
